Ilkley 3 Darlington 10 This was a game that was there for the taking, by either side. The fact that Darlington scored the one solitary but vital try that condemned the Dalesmen to a home defeat by a side they had comprehensively beaten away was testimony to a poor game of rugby.

Ilkley Harriers had a spring in their step at the final cross-country event of the season, a PECO Cross-Country League race over 4.5 miles at Esholt on Sunday. The Ilkley men finished as follows: 13, Jamie Hutchinson; 17, Dave Cummings; 23, Mark Iley; 25, Malcolm Pickering; 30, Henry Heavisides; 43, Paul Stephens; 45, Ed Brougham; 59, Paddy Hagan; 76, Ian Marshall; 86, Paul Wood; 88, Andrew Jackson; 97, Don MacRae; and 115, Andrew Bennett. The Ilkley ladies finishing positions were: 4, Kate Archer; 10, Alison Bennett; 11, Diane Haggar; 54, Louise Jackson; 60, Alison Ricci; 65, Sally Pickering; 83,Amanda Parnaby. In the increasingly successful junior races, Ilkley had 20 runners aged 9-15 years competing.

A major clash of top class events on Saturday meant that Ilkley Harriers were divided between the National Cross-Country Championships and the first race in the English Fell Championships, both held locally.

Ben Rhydding Ladies 4 Springfields 5 Rhydding did not play very well during their previous meeting and wanted to put right what went wrong last time round. However, Springfields had other ideas as they wanted to complete the double win over Rhydding.

The 21st Ilkley Moor Fell Race had reduced numbers as some unexpected early morning snow made travel difficult for many. Those who made it to the venue enjoyed a challenging race, with fine wins by local hero Graham Pearce and Yorkshire champion Emma Clayton. Over 30 Ilkley Harriers volunteers made the race possible while Pete Bland Sports were the major prize sponsor this year as well as providing race numbers. This race has a real Yorkshire flavour, and as always every finisher received a complimentary packet of Yorkshire Tea from Bettys and Taylors of Harrogate.

Carlisle 42 Ilkley 7 The euphoria of the victory against Billingham the previous week soon wore off as second to bottom Carlisle dished out what looks on paper like a thrashing to the Dalesmen.
