TOM Adams won the popular Ilkley Trail Race for the eighth time on Bank Holiday Monday.

The Ilkley Harriers runner set a new record of 38min 42sec on a successful day for the club which also saw them take the men's team prize.

Rob Little was second, Will Simmons third and Jack Cummings fourth.

Cummings took the male under-23 prize and Lucy Williamson was the first female under-23 finisher.

Sally Malir completed the individual honours list for Harriers by winning the women's F50 age group.

All proceeds from the race are donated to the Revival Centre and Orphanage in Matugga, Uganda.

Alex Hyde was at the Manchester for the half marathon, experiencing an emotional but uplifting event with a tremendous atmosphere and wonderful support, to return a personal best of 2:00:12 by four minutes.

Edinburgh was the destination for Caroline Howe in the half marathon with a personal best of 1:44:02, wiping five mins of her previous time and David Howe tackling the marathon in 3:41:01.

Dave Robson was on the fells in the Brecon Beacons, the Cwmdu race of 920m ascent and ten miles, the weather being hot, humid and misty with wind and poor visibility so that route finding was a challenge. Robson came in 14th.

Jane McCarthy and Dick Waddington began the epic Bob Graham Round Challenge.

This involves completing 42 Lake District summits, 66 miles and 27,000 ft of climbing in under 24 hours.

Even in good conditions this is a true test of stamina, endurance and physical effort.

Daunting for the most experienced of Fell/mountain runners. Starting in the dark, it was already a warm night and the pair ran well, ticking off the summits and managing a good pace.

For Waddington, the temperatures proved too much and as he recognised the symptoms of heat exhaustion and took the difficult decision to end his attempt at the end of leg three.

McCarthy continued and was delighted to finish in 23 hours and 7 minutes.

The heat was also on for Catherine Gibbons as she finished as second lady in the Bastillipo Popular 8.6k race in Seville, Spain with a time of 38:27.

The race was sponsored by an artisan bakery and Gibbons was awarded a lovely loaf along with her trophy.

Amanda Parnaby and Eddie Winslow completed the LDWA 100-mile event which this year was held in hilly North Yorkshire.

Parnaby finished in 43 hours and Winslow in a fantastic 29 hours.

Caroline Howe competed in the Edinburgh Half Marathon. The first six miles of this popular event were run in blazing sunshine, despite the 8am start.

Thankfully the cloud came over in the latter stages giving some respite. This is a flat course with nice long stretches along the coast and Caroline achieved a personal best time by over five minutes of 1:44:02 while David Howe completed the Marathon Course in 3:41:01.

The first race in the Harrogate District Summer Road League was held near Harlow Carr.

Some 22 Harriers took part in this competitive league with Matt Newell in great form leading in the Ilkley men in seventh place and Ellie Kitchen coming home as the second lady.

Results: 7 Matt Newell 35:04, 93 Ellie Kitchen 41:82, 100 Tom Worboys 41:07, 124 Michael Duffield 42:27, 141 Malcolm Pickering 43:21, 163 Paul Stephens 44:26, 215 Philip Hirst 46:47, 233 David Ibbotson 47:32, 239 Mary Gibbons 47:43, 243 Caroline Howe 47:53, 257 Jean Sullivan 48:39, 276 Geoffrey White 49:46, 341 Paul Sugden 52:52, 378 Dianne Kitchen 55:14, 419 Donald Macrae 57:45, 427 Anna Pickering 58:05, 437 Emma O’Looney 59:10, 455 Bernadette Gibbons 1:01: 08, 464 Vincent Gibbons 1:02)34, 468 Sally Wright 1:03:20, 471 Emily Elmes 1:03:35, 483 Abigail Bailey 1:08:15
