Stourport 2 Ben Rhydding 0
Ben Rhydding Ladies are still without an Investec Conference North win after two converted penalty corners sealed their fate on Saturday.

They had started positively against their newly-promoted opponents with Fran Holmes Brown finding space down the left to set up early attacks.

Busy running around the D by Laura Smith and Jen Wilson created problems for the Stourport defence but Rhydding failed to get a shot on target.

The home side created a few quick counter attacks but solid defending from Tanisha Janzen and Rachelle Le Bourdon prevented them from opening the scoring.

The two teams exchanged blows and Rachel Doherty went close at a penalty corner.

Jo Carpay in goal kept the home side at bay unril the deadlock was finally broken by a penalty corner early in the second half.

An accurate straight strike was enough to find the net.

Jo Taylor – player of the match – drove up the right flank beating their midfield repeatedly. She linked up with Sarah Bell who was instrumental in winning several penalty corners for her side.

In the last five minutes Rhydding threw everything at their oppon- ents and they went close to equalising but the Stourport keeper kept them out.

In the dying seconds the home side were awarded a generous penalty corner and scored with a straight strike into the bottom corner.

Rhydding now have a weekend off to reflect and regroup and prepare to play bottom of the league Boots from Nottingham on November 9, a must win game for the Ilkley side.
