Twelve days after they were expelled from the Dales Council League, Apperley Bridge found a new home.

The former Bradford Central League club have been admitted to the Bradford Mutual Sunday School League.

The league’s annual meeting at Clayton Rugby League Club admitted them 24-1, with three abstentions.

Also admitted were Parkside, a team basically comprising Bowling Old Lane juniors who cannot get into their two senior sides, by a landslide 33-0.

However, West Riding Sunday Council side Mr Fix It DIY lost their admittance vote by 16-12.

Their representative Saleem Khan was bitterly disapp- ointed, saying: “We were looking forward to playing in this league but have been punished for our honesty.”

Mr Khan had revealed before the vote took place that the four players whose behaviour had caused Apperley Bridge to be thrown out of the Dales Council League could well be playing for Mr Fix It DIY, and that information had obviously swayed the vote despite Khan saying that he could control them.

He said later: “I was all a misunderstanding – my English isn’t very good – but I will be writing to the league to try and get them to change their mind and admit us.”

Both the new clubs were put on a year’s probation.

Apperley Bridge, because of their known strength, will play in Group B and Parkside in Group D.

The league will have ten teams in Group A and Group B and eight teams in Group Cand Group D.
