Ilkley scrum half Kirk Arundale was in fine form for Indonesia in the HSBC Asian 5 Nations Division Two competition in Jakarta.

He emerged as the event’s second top scorer with 28 points and scored a last-gasp try against Pakistan to win the play off for third place.

Pakistan had taken the lead 19-15 in the 79th minute, but after a sustained period of pressure Arundale dived over just as the hooter sounded to seal a 20-19 win.

Arundale’s try took his tally of points to ten in the match.

He had earlier scored 18 in his side’s 32-23 defeat by the eventual winners China.

Arundale said: “We played well for each other against Pakistan and that was the difference I am really pleased that we did not panic when we were behind.”

Arundale is due to meet up with his Ilkley colleagues when pre-season training starts at Stacks Field on Tuesday (7pm).

Chairman of rugby Mike Sutcliffe has made an appeal to colts and former members of the club to turn up.

He said: “Last season saw us fielding a 1st XV and 2nd XV pretty much every week and managing to get around 60 per cent of our 3rd XV games played.

“Whilst an improvement on the previous season, I would personally like to see us completing the 3rd XV league programme in full.

“With that in mind, I am asking that all of our colts and our players who have drifted in the last couple of seasons, come back to the club as senior players in whatever capacity you can, or if you have friends who want to play, get them down to Ilkley and pass them on to me.

“It is only with your help that we can enjoy playing 3rd XV social rugby. Any players interested should contact me on 07825 794253 or send an email to mike.sutcliffe1@btinternet.com
