Barnsley have informed Guiseley that they cannot raise a team for Tuesday night’s scheduled friendly fixture.

The match has therefore been cancelled, with the potential for a new date to be set.

News on an alternative fixture may follow should Guiseley be able to arrange at such short notice.

If a new fixture cannot be found the Lions’ pre-season will start on the road at Thackley’s Dennyfield on Tuesday, July 18 in a 7:45pm kick-off.

It is a shame for the Lions, who have close links with Barnsley having taken several players on loan from their youth set up last season.

Those include Joe Ackroyd, Keegan Hartley, Harrison Nejman and Kareem Hassan-Smith.

Barnsley made the trip to Nethermoor last season for a friendly and ran out 2-1 winners.

There was also set to be a tribute to John Bridson, a stalwart supporter of the club who passed away in June, before the clash with Barnsley.
