THERE was lots happening on the race scene over the last week with some great results for the Ilkley Harriers.

The Ilkley Incline took place this week. This short, but tough one-mile uphill race, which starts at the bottom of Keighley Road at the junction with Wells Road, was a club only event for Ilkley Harriers this year.

First to finish was Rob Cunningham in a great time of 8:45, followed by Lucy Williamson in second place in a time of 9:36.

This week, a Leeds Evensplits 5km race took place at the Brownlee Centre Cycle Circuit in North Leeds with 9 senior Harriers taking part.

Some amazing times, with Alison Bennett breaking the club F60 record, running it in a time of 21:03.

This also meant that she was the first F60 on the night. Colin Williams was first M55 and Claire McLoughlin was first F35.

Matt Cox, Colin Williams and Petra Bijsterveld took part in the Punk Panther Reservoir Dogs Ultra, which starts and finishes in Otley.

This ultra involve a tour around the local reservoirs, including Swinsty, Fewston and Thurscross. Matt and Colin did the 36-mile option, while Petra did the slightly shorter 28-mile route. Matt Cox finished in an impressive second place.

The Calderdale Way Relay, Britain’s biggest club off road event was back this year which takes place around Halifax and includes a trip up to Stoodley Pike for some.

Six Ilkley Harriers teams took part, each team consisting of two Harriers and they managed to finish in 16th place out of 62 teams.

Four Harriers took part in the Great Whernside fell race, which this year was designated as the Yorkshire Fell championship race.

Jack Wood led the Harriers home in a great time of 34:58.

Also on the fells, Thieveley Pike fell race was on, which is one of the original 50 FRA fell races. This 4.3mile route involves 1310ft of climbing and Alison Weston was sixth lady home, in a time of 48:29.

Three Harriers took part in the multi-terrain Beckbusters 10km, which starts and finishes at Bishop Monkton in North Yorkshire. Geoff Howard was the first MV70 to finish in a time of 48:02.

On the parkrun front this week, lots of top ten placings for Ilkley Harriers.

Michael Abrams-Cohen finished seventh at the Fountain’s Abbey parkrun, Rob Cunningham finished eight at the Chevin Forest parkrun and Tim Ashelford finished ninth at the same race.                Written by: Jean Sullivan
