JOE Fairburn will be jetting off to Mexico at short notice this weekend, as he has been selected for Team GB’s Cadet under-17s.
The Year 9 Prince Henry’s Grammar School, Otley student will be shooting the senior distance of 70m at the SoCal Shootout.
He has also had his selection for Team GB for the European Championships in Romania confirmed for late July.
A member of the Archery GB Academy programme, Fairburn won the IFAA World Junior Bowhunter Champion title in Hungary in 2015 and also took individual gold and bronze medals at the USA Easton JOAD Championships in 2015.
He represented Great Britain in the European Field Archery Championships in Poland and came seventh in the under-21 category.
Dave Curtis, PE Faculty Leader, said: “I have recently joined the staff at Prince Henry’s and I have been very impressed by the level of sport which our students play, both in and outside school.
“Joe is a great example of someone who has worked very hard to get where he is and the work is really paying off now. Like Year 12 student Georgia Coates, I am sure we will see him at the Olympics in the future.”
