OTLEY will be emerging from the away dressing room for Sunday’s Waddilove Cup final – even though it is being played on their Cross Green ground.

“It’s just the way the draw has worked out,” said their captain James Davies, who is hoping his side can end his club’s 33 year wait to win the trophy by defeating the 2012 winners Collingham.

Otley last won the trophy in 1981 and despite being officially the “away team” they should feel very much at home.

“It is great to get to the final when it is being held at our ground,” added Davies. “There should be a great atmosphere and we are all looking forward to the match.

“Collingham have a good young side and have already beaten us once this season, so we know we have a battle on our hands.”

Otley have a number of potential match winners in their line-up. Davies is a formidable all-rounder while Australian James Wilcock, Jamie Pickering and Josh Atkinson are just some of the players capable of turning a game.

Their strength has been evident throughout the season as they chase the Division One and Waddilove Cup double.

“Every game will be like a cup final for us from now on,” said Davies. “We slipped up against Ilkley last Saturday and know that we have to keep our focus.”

One player who Davies believes can make a big difference in the cup final is Australian fast bowler James Wilcock.

“He is a class act and keeps batsmen on their toes. He has done really well for us,” said Davies.

Another player who has made a good impression is recent signing Dave Hester. The former Lightcliffe batsman made 99 in the semi-final win over Guiseley.

“We have people throughout the team who can come up with big performances,” said Davies. “The important thing for us is to deliver on Sunday.”
