Ilkley Dynamo 3 Keighley Town 1

Dynamo reached the Wharfedale Triangle League Cup final for the first time since 1981 after a totally committed semi-final display against the current Premier Division leaders.

Honours had been even in the two league games between the clubs with each winning one so a close game was expected.

Dynamo opened the game by moving the ball purposefully and always appearing to have a spare man.

They played at a high tempo despite having made four changes from the side that had demolished Saltaire in a mid-week league game.

Dynamo again looked the more cohesive team with both Tom Higman and Michael Bloom giving committed displays. An accurate strike from Danny Henderson found the net when he let fly from 25 yards for his 18th goal of the season.

The visitors were happy to soak up pressure before breaking quickly on the counter attack.

Andy Feather equalised for Keighley after the ball appeared to contact the side netting and after much dispute, the referee allowed the goal to stand.

The Dynamo’s midfield produced another stellar display with Craig Bentham and Danny Kenna driving the team forward.

A crisp low finish from the edge of the box from Luke Hudson eventually broke the impasse to put Dynamo 2-1 up.

Despite their best endeavours, Keighley could not find their way back into the match. Ilkley’s Danny Bott was outstanding in battling for possession but it was left to Chris Holmes, who cracked the ball home from close range to make it 3-1.

Dynamo will meet Keighley Athletic in the final at Thackley on Sunday, May 11 (2pm).
