The Ilkley Grammar School Under 16 Rugby team became joint county champions after drawing 22- 22 with Ermysted’s in the Yorkshire Cup Final.
It was a fantastic game of high-quality rugby that belied their agegroup. Both teams led the scoring twice and both fought back from behind on two occasions.
Nerves were fraught as George Pickersgill kicked a late conversion to level the scores. It was a game neither team deserved to lose and in the end the trophy was shared.
Tries were scored by Henry Illingworth, Dougie Burn and Richard Burn. George Pickersgill kicked a penalty and two conversions. The man of the match for IGS was Harry Maslen.
This is an outstanding achieve- ment as no IGS team has ever been county champions before so the boys can by justly proud.
