The parking problems which caused great inconvenience recently for residents of Denton Road may have been a one-off situation – but they raise questions of how problem parking can be dealt with effectively.
The calls for better co-ordination between Bradford Council and the organisers of big events may yield some method of preventing a clash of events, and the subsequent parking problems.
But dealing with parking situations as they arise around Ilkley can take a long time.
A councillor at last week’s Ilkley Parish Council meeting flagged up repeated problems with obstructive parking elsewhere in Ilkley.
And the issue in this case did not appear to be on the radar of either the police or Bradford Council, both of whom have powers to deal with certain aspects of parking issues.
The answer, apparently, was to collect sufficient evidence of there being a problem – unless a police officer or enforcement officer happens to see it while on patrol.
And should someone park in a way which causes problems for others, a fine stuck to the window still does not remove the offending vehicle.
