Ilkley's newest store gets off to good start

The new store in Railway Road, Ilkley. The new store in Railway Road, Ilkley.

Trading got off to a healthy start for the latest high-street arrival in Ilkley last week.

Scarborough-based chain, Boyes, opened its newest store on Friday, at Ilkley’s Railway Road – the group’s 39th outlet.

The store has moved into the premises vacated earlier this year by Anglia Co-operatives’ Westgate department store, and employs around 30 people.

Chairman and joint managing director of the chain, Andrew Boyes, said: “We’re very happy with the number of people who have been to visit us and the reaction, we’ve had a lot of very positive comments about the store.

The store stocks a range of goods, including clothing, toiletries, stationery, toys, confectionery, homewares, DIY, soft furnishings and has a craft and haberdashery section.

A great store with a fantastic product range. No fuss about this store taking trade from town centre shops !

So, this store stocks clothing, toiletries, stationery, toys, confectionery, homewares, DIY, and soft furnishings, much of which is cheaper than other local shops. Funny how the Tesco bashers now have nothing to say about Boyes taking trade away from local shops. Perhaps the interests of the town is not really their priority after all, or maybe Boyes is simply not high profile enough for them...?

Above we have a couple of numbskulls.
I bet even Janet and John knew that it was pointless saying anything about Boye's or even M&S because they were retail stores (Westgate/Kwiksave)t
o start with and were in Ilkley town centre anyway. The only thing that you could oppose was probably the signage.
You both have totally embarrassed yourselves with your obvious ignorance

Totally different issue. Boyes is targetting a different market to the majority of the town centre stores - Tesco admit they are going after their business. The store most likely to feel the effect of Boyes arriving is the Mill Shop in Ben Rhydding. For years there were Boyes-type shops in Ilkley - anybody remember Scoobidoos or whatever it was called in the sixties, the Mill Shop in Brook Street in the nineties and Woolworths to some extent in its final years.
