THEY came in their hundreds to Christchurch, Ilkley - to look and then buy jigsaws. Some were brand new and boxed, whilst others had been donated and completed by jigsaw enthusiasts.

The three-day, fourth annual Christchurch Jigsaw Festival raised £1,800 to be shared between Christchurch, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Cancer Research UK.

The event was also an opportunity to introduce an exciting initiative for early in 2018: the completion of a series of 2,000 piece panels which join to make up a 48,000 piece world-record jigsaw. Local travel agents, who have already agreed to be involved in the initiative, arrived to set the ball rolling. The project will include a sponsorship scheme, details of which will be announced shortly.

The British jigsaw manufacturer Jumbo sponsored the festival, helping with publicity and donating a box of jigsaws and related items. Included were three special puzzles to use as prizes. “Guess the number of pieces in a glass jar” was won by Mrs Marrion Harvey. A Yorkshire Quiz was won by David Feather.
