A PLANNING application to build 100 retirement homes, a 77-bedroom care home, office building and a children's nursery on the former Spooner Industries factory site in Ilkley is now open for public comment.

McCarthy & Stone Retirement Lifestyles Ltd and Tesco Plc submitted the application to Bradford Council in December, and the the local authority recently re-validated the application following a delay in the process.

The statutory timescale for publicity runs until March 3. The determination deadline for the plan is April 14.

The site, on land at Railway Road and Mayfield Road, was previously occupied by engineering firm Spooner, and was the subject of plans for a new Tesco store – an idea now abandoned by the supermarket chain,

Plans include two extensions to the nearby new Spooner factory.

Bradford Council notified a ward councillor it has re-consulted with all those originally contacted about the application and new notices will be displayed around the site.

The application seeks permission to construct 44 retirement living apartments on the site, plus 56 assisted living units, as well as the 77-bed care home.

The applicant has also submitted design and access surveys with the application.
