Maths Week came to Ashlands Primary School in Ilkley with the children being encouraged to use their maths skills while having fun and to increase their awareness of maths in the environment.
Joanne Shepherd, maths co-ordinator at the school in Leeds Road said: “We believe that children who enjoy a subject gain confidence which in turn means making progress in one of the most vital life-skills - maths. “The children have enjoyed taking part in The Paul Godding Maths Puzzle Road show, a theatre performance ‘The calculating Mr One’, investigations, maths trails, problem solving, making cocktails, having design briefs to make packaging for objects, many hands-on practical maths activities, baking, shopping (on-line), linking maths to art and ICT!”
The week culminated in a final day where children and staff dressed up using their imaginations to devise a maths-based costume.
