A husband and wife have retired from running a Rawdon newsagents, which has been in their family for more than four decades.

Steve and Rosie Clegg sold their last newspaper on Saturday – and have expressed their thanks to the community for their support over the years.

The couple, both in their 50s, are familiar figures in Rawdon, where they followed in the footsteps of Steve’s dad to run the newsagents at Crowtrees.

Rosie said: “A lot of the customers are personal friends and we know everyone in Rawdon.”

But she said they were looking forward to retirement. “I have just finished having chemotherapy and radiotherapy for breast cancer, so it has been a bit of a drain working through it,” she said.

She added: “I do teach aerobics and dance locally so I will be carrying on with that.”

The Cleggs also plan to spend their retirement touring with the Five & Dimers Country and Western Band, with Rosie as vocalist and banjoist and Steve as road manager.

They have sold their business to another couple who took over at the weekend.
