May marks another significant milestone in the history of Bracken Ghyll Golf Club with the official opening of the new 12th green.

The new green at the Addingham club was meant to open in 2009, but the poor weather last year delayed bringing it into play until this month.

It represents the completion of all the major course development and occupies a position on the eastern edge of the course, with panoramic views up Wharfedale to Bolton Abbey, across the valley to Beamsley Beacon and down to Ilkley, the Cow and Calf Rocks and the distant Otley Chevin.

“It’s great to have this new green in play and I’m sure all the members will appreciate the wait, said Chairman of the Green, Dave Gilbert.

Club resident, Lisle Richardson, said: “Bracken Ghyll has now completed all the major course development and credit must be given to the greenkeeping staff, led by Rob Walker under Dave’s guidance, for all the hard work put in over recent years.”

Captain Kevin Dixon says that it is intended to set a new record on the course for the fastest round of golf.

The challenge will be staged on the Captain’s Day, July 31, and he hopes as many members as possible to sign up to take part.
