LOW crime rates continued in Addingham last month, while police got back to carrying out Speedwatch checks after disruption caused by the ice and snow earlier in January.

Police reported that they recorded just two crimes in the village throughout January, but say they are committed to making sure crime is kept low in Addingham.

The next Police and Community Together (PACT) meeting for Bradford Council’s Craven ward will take place at Silsden Town Hall on Tuesday starting at 7pm.

Wharfedale and Craven Neighbourhood Policing Team also carried out three Speedwatch operations in Addingham last month, catching out nine drivers breaking the 30 miles per hour limit on Bark Lane.

Drivers caught speeding are sent a letter warning them of the error of their ways.

Inspector Sue Sanderson recently told village councillors that Speedwatch patrols usually carried out jointly by police officers and civilians had been curtailed during the heavy snow and freezing temperatures.

Police had also given the benefit of the doubt to motorists parked in some areas, accepting that many could not park in their own driveways because of the snow and ice.

A Speedwatch check on Bark Lane on the morning of Saturday January 9 caught two drivers, while another two were caught on the same road on the morning of Thursday January 14. A further operation on Bark Lane between 8.30am and 9.30am on Monday. January 25 caught five drivers exceeding the speed limit.

Police say many similar operations are planned, and they urged drivers to be aware of speed limits and drive appropriately.
