ALEX Pattison could be involved if City do make the play-offs.

The all-action midfielder has suffered a tough first year at Valley Parade with hamstring injuries limiting him to just eight starts.

Pattison has been in London undergoing tests – and depending on the outcome, Graham Alexander has hinted that he might feature should the season be extended beyond the weekend’s final league game against Newport.

The City boss said: “Jake Young definitely won’t be. With the best will in the world, that won’t happen.

“Alex Pattison is a different case. He travelled down to London on Tuesday for a series of tests to see exactly where he is everything.

“It was quite an intensive day and we haven’t had the results yet. They come back to us tomorrow and we’ll be guided by them.

“Alex will be a really important player for us going forward and if there’s an element of risk we feel is too great, then we won’t do it.

“But if everything is a green light and there’s nothing we can see or hear to hold him back, then why would we?

“We have to wait for all those test results to come back to make sure he’s in the best possible condition and then take the advice on them.

“If we get that far and he is coming into contention, that means Saturday has gone well for us.”

Jamie Walker is back from his one-game ban for the Valley Parade clash with the Exiles. Alexander welcomes the selection dilemma after City won at Barrow in the Scot’s absence.

“That’s not a headache for me,” he added. “It’s brilliant.

“We want more good players to pick from. That’s more competition and a better 18-19 players to choose from every game.

“There’s no drawback to having Alex Pattison available at any stage or bringing Jamie Walker back into the squad after suspension.”
