HAWKSWORTH village near Guiseley has gone big on Christmas this year.

A Christmas coffee morning on November 25th hosted by the chapel and the Hawksworth branch of the Yorkshire Countrywomen's Association (YCA) was very well attended and villagers and visitors were able to buy among other things Christmas cards featuring snowy views of the village. The residents' association dinner was held at Bradford Golf Club on December 1st and following the meal Hawksworth Christmas picture bingo was enjoyed. December 1st was also the start of Hawksworth's advent calendar featuring a daily Christmas window or other festive feature being revealed. This is new for the village and was requested by a school parent to give the pupils at Hawksworth Junior school something to look out for every day. Number 24 is to be the village Christmas tree at Milton Corner at the bottom of Odda Lane which looks lovely day or night. A Santa can now be seen also, on the the seat at the bottom of Hawksworth wood.

On Monday Dec 11th the YCA enjoyed a Christmas lunch at Otley Golf Club, with a Christmas quiz on a card on the tables provided by the chairman Mary Bowes. On Wednesday Dec 13th a Festive Coffee Session was held at the chapel and the choir from Hawksworth school walked along to sing their Christmas repertoire. On Sunday December 17th Hawksworth Methodist Church held it's carol service at the chapel and the village singing group performed three Christmas songs. On Monday evening there was carol singing around the village to raise money for The Candlelighters which is a local children's cancer charity.

There is no service at the chapel on Christmas Eve but on Christmas morning on Monday, December 25th there will be a short 9:30am service. The service on Sunday December 31st at the chapel will be at the usual time of 10:30am and will be a joint service with Menston and Burley Methodist Churches.
