ILKLEY Summer Festival continued last week with the Continental Market attracting crowds of shoppers to The Grove over three days - August 10, 11 and 12.

A mainstay of the festival’s calendar The Grove became a pedestrian zone for three days, with a host of stalls selling treats and goods from many countries.

A special treat on Saturday evening was entertainment by Dominic Halpin and the Honeybees who performed on the bandstand and proved very popular.

The event was free but festival MD Anne Hawkesworth warned a sponsor would need to come forward in future years.

She said: “We have a fantastic time on Saturday evening. It was free for the people to come along but we used our reserves. To secure its future it needs help, such as sponsor.”

Anne added: “I would also like to make reference to the wonderful contribution made by the U3A and also The Rattlers who performed during both Friday and Saturday afternoon on a voluntary basis.

“It was a wonderful contribution to the Festival entertainment. You could say we got by with a little help from our friends!”

The Summer Festival continues with Ilkley Jazz Festival running from August 15 to 19 with events being held at a host of venues across the town.
