He may not be on home soil but there is no ignoring Norwood driver Charlie Hollings in the 2007 Australian F3 championship, as the Yorkshireman jumped to the top of the points table after round five at Eastern Creek raceway - providing Astuti Motorsport with a convincing one-two finish alongside his team mate Michael Trimble.

Charlie had a fantastic start in race one and took the lead heading into the first corner after qualifying in third.

The Yorkshireman comfortably led the field for the rest of the 15 lap race, taking the championship-changing 20 points and knocking Tim Macrow, who came in third, off the top spot.

The second race also saw Charlie get off to a great start as he came from fourth into third in lap one. Despite engine difficulties, Charlie held his pace for the rest of the race, cementing his hold on the points table.

Charlie was delighted with the results. "This has been a fantastic weekend for me and the team. It's great to get another win here at Eastern Creek and to be leading the championship.

"I was easily fastest in testing so qualifying was a bit frustrating - but taking another win made up for it.

"The whole team is pushing hard and I think we'll be very strong for the last rounds of the season - we're really confident and I can't wait to get to Phillip Island next month."

As the fight for the championship hots up, the Kumho Tyres Formula 3 drivers return to Phillip Island Grand Prix circuit on 11-12 August to battle for round six.

Cross Hills builder Nathan Wrigglesworth won the Craven club's trial at Lumb Waterfall on Saturday losing just six marks on the ten section, four lap course where Barnoldswick's engineer Anthony Ayrton and Skipton quantity surveyor Boyd Webster applied the pressure.

Gavin Lowther was the best novice rider in the Ripon club's Acklams championship trial on Saturday at Winksley beating Harrogate teenager Joel Sadler and David Mawer. Fellbeck farmer Norman Shepherd took the Over 40's class from Harrogate engineer Patrick Darbyshire and former Bradford star trialler Brett Haley.

Yeadon-Guiseley club members braved the monsoon at Emmott's Farm at Silsden to contest the fifth closed championship trial of the season.

Almost 70 competitors and a dozen official got a soaking for their enthusiasm.

Skipton's James Duxbury topped the expert class from Shibden international youth starlet Jack Challoner and Roundhay teenager Zac Sherwin. Patrick Darbyshire was the smart guy by managing to ride the entire course without penalty.

The F.I.M. world trials championship in the Czech Republic on Saturday and Sunday featured a double headed weekend of trials action with British riders in the thick of the action.

On Saturday Spanish girl Laia Sanz opened up the defence of her world female title at Kramolin against top German women Iris Kramer and Isle of Wight British champion Becky Cook and Doncaster former champion Donna Fox.

Both made the points cut in third and fourth places. Maria Conway, a top downhill mountain biker, and one of only three females to complete the Scotgt Trial course, was sixth.

Katy Sunter put Richmond firmly on the map with a fighting 11th place after a tiebreak decider with national Youth champion Emma Bristow. Both lost 51 marks in 15 section course.

On Sunday the main event was the world title event which went to former champion Adam Raga from title leader Toni Bou.

Cookridge's James Dabill acheived his best ever world results with a storming sixth place riding his Future Montesa.

The ten championship points that the Cookridge rider scored hoisted him to seventh place in the standings, but, just three points from a top six ranking.

Dougie Lampkin was seventh in the event. The Silsden multi-champion never really got to grips with Kramolin but stormed the first five sections even though the ground was damp after overnight rain.

Even a 30c temperature failed to dry the sections. The Brit joy spilled over into the Junior Cup category where Alexz Wigg took the top step on the podium from championship leader Michael Brown and Bewdley's Sam Haslam.
