LONG standing governor Paul Whitaker bid a fond farewell to Skipton's Otley Street Community Nursery School.

Mr Whitaker, a Skipton town and Craven district councillor, has been a governor at the nursery school for 29 years.

He has spent most of his time as the governing body's vice chairman, as the local authority representative, and has been responsible for health and safety at the school.

He was also instrumental in appointing two new headteachers, Elizabeth Sellers, and the current headteacher, Patricia Lord.

In a ceremony, children and staff showed their appreciation of Mr Whitaker by presenting him with a gift and a card.

In a small ceremony with the children and staff Mr Whitaker was presented with a gift and card. Mrs Lord thanked Mr Whitaker for his many years of leadership and support and added that the school would miss the knowledge and expertise he had brought.
