THE UK’s first Muslim cabinet minister will speak in Horsforth this week.

Baroness Sayeeda Warsi will talk about British attitudes and policy towards Islam during an event at Leeds Trinity University.

She will discuss her own position as the child of Pakistani immigrants, her upbringing in Dewsbury, and her new book, The Enemy Within, which explores questions of cultural difference, terrorism, surveillance, social justice, religious freedom, integration and the meaning of 'British values'.

She said: "I'm delighted to be speaking at Leeds Trinity University during its 50th anniversary year; talking about issues that are both timely and necessary.

"I'm looking forward to meeting a diverse range of students and staff, and sharing my thoughts on the challenges facing Britain and its relationship with its Muslim citizens."

Two hundred people are expected to attend Baroness Warsi’s talk at 7pm on Thursday, May 18.

The talk is free to attend and tickets are still available. Refreshments and a light buffet will be served before the talk, and Baroness Warsi will sign copies of her book after the event. Visit www.leedstrinity.ac.uk/events for more information.
