LONG Preston VA Primary School has been given a 'good' rating by government Ofsted inspectors.

It followed a 'short' inspection of the school - because the school was judged to be good at its last inspection in October, 2012.

Inspector, Nick Whittaker, said the school had maintained a 'good quality of education' and that 'strong child centred values' were at the heart of the school's work.

Headteacher, Elizabeth Martin, had built a strong and cohesive staff team who shared her values and deep commitment to the children and their families.

Pupils had positive attitudes to learning, worked hard and applied themselves, while also learning independently and co-operatively.

Mr Whittaker noted staff had consistently high expectations of pupils and that the curriculum 'sparked' their enthusiasm.

"(Mrs Martin's) purposeful drive for the best, combined with (her) thoughtful, collaborative and highly reflective approach, has placed the school in a strong position to secure further improvement," said Mr Whittaker in his letter to the school.

Three areas marked for improvement at the last inspection, to improve the teaching of maths, to improve pupils' understanding of how to stay safe, and to increase their knowledge of the wider world, had all been tackled.

Governors kept a close eye on all areas of the school's performance and worked effectively with the headteacher and her wider team.
