A GLOW-in-the-dark jewellery collection designed by a student from Menston was the star exhibition at her university's annual show.

The collection of rings, necklaces and earrings is crafted from silver and silicone and inspired by creatures from the depths of the ocean.

Jenny Llewellyn, of Leathley Crescent, Menston, said: "The jewellery is based mainly on jellyfish and sea slugs.

"They don't sound very inspirational but I've done a lot of research and visited lots of aquariums and the variety of colours you see in them is amazing."

The 23-year-old designer has already sold some pieces after her starring role at Middlesex University''s annual art and design exhibition.

The silicone material she uses have to go through a challenging colouring, curing and casting process before it can be made into jewellery that recreates the glowing properties of sea creatures.

This week she will be exhibiting at the national New Designers show, where she hopes people in the trade will spot her jewellery.

She will graduate with a BA (Hons) Jewellery this month and will be spending a couple of months living with her parents in Menston over the summer, before moving back to London to pursue a career in jewellery design.
