OTLEY will celebrate Earth Day with a fair dedicated to all things 'green'.

This year's annual Otley Green Fair will take place at the Courthouse from 10am to 4pm on Saturday, April 22.

The free-to-enter event has been organised to tie in with Earth Day, when events are held around the globe to promote environmental awareness.

The fair will feature campaign, advice and community group stalls, food and refreshments and a children's art workshop - running from 1pm to 3pm, with a £2 charge for materials - where participants will get to make a 'grass-head'.

Local groups taking part range from Wharfedale Beekeepers and the Friends of Gallows Hill to Leeds City Council's Waste Management team and Otley and Yeadon Green Party.

Others at the fair will include Otley Quakers, The Conservation Volunteers, Leeds Palestine Solidarity Campaign, Leeds Vegetarian and Vegan Society, Otley Welcomes, A Flock of Needles, Leeds Alliance for Green socialism and Wharfedale Amnesty.

National campaigns will also be represented by representatives from the Campaign Against the Arms Trade, the Campaign for the Accountability of American bases, the Woodland Trust and Oxfam.

Handmade greetings cards and natural products will be among the items on sale while Start Birding will be giving out birdwatching tips.

Breastfeeding worker Jaeesha Ali will also be on hand with advice for new mothers and there will be a talk about the All Good Things Community Food Project's new social enterprise.

The day will be marked by Morris dancing, too, with Otley's Buttercross Belles performing in the Courthouse's courtyard before and after lunch.
