ILKLEY-based soprano, Una Barry, will be joining the international organist and Director of Music for the Leeds Catholic Diocese, Benjamin Saunders, on Wednesday, March 29 in a lunchtime concert Bradford Cathedral at 1pm.
It is part of the Bradford’s regular Wednesday@One organ recital series and the first time a singer has been asked to contribute.
The programme is of music devoted solely to works by Hendrik Andriessen and Dick Hyman. Andriessen was a Dutch Catholic organist-composer and Hyman is an American jazz pianist and composer. Una will be singing a cycle of song by the Andriessen entitled Miroir de Peine (Mirror of Pain). The work consists of five songs set to poetry by the Belgian poet, Henri Ghéon (1875-1944), and are based on the five sorrowful mysteries of the rosary.
The concert finishes with the organ piece Andriessen’s Theme and Variations.
All recitals are preceded by a buffet lunch at 12.30pm. Lunch donation £3. Free admission with a retiring collection in aid of Bradford Cathedral Music Fund.
