VOLUNTEERS ran a collection point at Christchurch in Ilkley last weekend as part of the Samara’s Aid Appeal.

Good quality bedding and clothing was collected and packed up for the charity which seeks to provide relief of suffering through the provision of humanitarian and medical aid in Syria, Iraq and the Middle East.

Joanne Wales-Smith, of Addingham, volunteered to organise the local collection point for the charity and with the help of Christchurch members and lots of other volunteers, ran the drop-off and packing station.

She said: "We have had a wonderful response from the Ilkley community and people came from as far afield as Harrogate, York and Pontefract to donate items!

"All of this is good quality clothing and bedding and it will be sent over to Syria for the refugee camps or other areas of need. We have been able to pack over 150 boxes and bags. The boxes will set off on their journey this week and be in Syria in about three to four weeks.

"Anyone who wishes to help can still contribute to the shipping costs through the giving page on the Samara website."
