RAWDON Fun Day finally had glorious sunshine after horrendous weather at the two previous events.

The hot spell brought out the crowds to make the most of the attractions at the fundraising day on Saturday.

In the main arena, the Stannage International Stunt Team amazed spectators by performing death-defying stunts on and off quad bikes, motorbikes and cycles.

The event also featured the Ridgeside Lurcher and Falconry Display, as well as Starlight Dance Academy and LH Dance.

Around the field were the Adventure Before Dementia Trikes, who donated their collection to the fun day coffers. Among the other attractions were the West Yorkshire Classics fire engines and the team from Bank House Barkers, who hosted dog agility classes.

Also new this year was the free kids entertainment zone, with a disco, facepainting and crafts tables, which proved to be very popular. Visitors to the fun day were entertained by four bands, who performed on stage.

A spokeswoman for the event said: "The final total raised has yet to be checked, but the event was undoubtedly a financial success.

"The student ambassadors from Leeds Trinity University once again did an amazing job in staffing the gate and marshalling.

"The committee would like to thank all the volunteers for their time, commitment and hard work, the crowds who came along to support what is a fantastic community day, all the sponsors of the event, and everyone who provided equipment or their expertise free of charge.

"In particular, we would also like to thank Andy Llewellyn, of Animal Planet Pet Shop, for organising the power supply; Caddick Construction, which supplied the toilet facilities; GAP group, which provided all our site fencing, water supply, site radios, road cones, back-up generator etc; Bibbys Distribution, which provided an artic trailer for use as our stage; Ronnie the Rhino and Hawthorne Farm, which ran the refreshment tent for us free of charge and also donated literally thousands of delicious cupcakes for sale.

"The Fun Day supports the Yorkshire Air Ambulance and local charities and is organised and run totally by volunteers."
