A 70-YEAR-OLD Otley man has died after a crash between a bin lorry and a car in North Yorkshire.

The man, who was driving a Skoda Fabia, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash between Blubberhouses and Greenhow Hill, near Harrogate yesterday.

Emergency crews were called to the collision around two miles north of the Stonehouse Inn at 8.55am.

The refuse wagon was travelling south from the direction of Pateley Bridge, towards the Stonehouse Inn, with the Skoda driving in the opposite direction.

Police confirmed the Skoda driver died at the scene, while a man in his 20s, who was driving the bin lorry, was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with a serious arm injury.

The passenger in the wagon, another man aged in his 20s, was airlifted to James Cook Hospital in Middlesbrough with a serious shoulder injury.
