COUNCILLORS have decided against setting up a beacon on Ilkley Moor to mark the 70th anniversary of VE Day.
Ilkley Parish Council was asked if wanted to install and light a beacon on May 8, in a Government plan to light beacons nationwide on the date. Councillor Paul Kitching said he supported the idea of giving certificates to local war veterans to mark the anniversary, but did not favour turning the anniversary into a festival. Councillors agreed there was no support for the beacon.
