LITTLE Red Riding Hood managed to escape from the Big Bad Wolf to visit youngsters at Yeadon Library.

Charlotte Thornton took time out from rehearsals for the Yeadon Charities Association production to read the gripping fairy story to a young audience.

The actress is making her debut with the company to take the lead role in Red Riding Hood, which is running until Saturday. She is one of a number of new faces in the cast, along with some old favourites.

Fiona Spencer, who played Nancy in Guiseley’s production of Oliver, plays Peter the Woodcutter, while John Kitching, another familiar face to local audiences plays the pantomime Dame, Granny Knott. Louise Blackburn brings humour to the part of Miss Took the Games Mistress, a larger-than-life character with limitless energy. All four have previously performed in other pantomimes in the region and bring a wealth of experience to the cast.

Another debutant, who is making a huge leap from his most recent role is Nigel Passey. Having starred as Jesus in Guiseley’s recent production of Jesus Christ Superstar, his transformation to the pantomime comic demonstrates his versatility. He stars opposite pantomime favourite, Catherine Moglia, whose performance last year as Fairy Godmother received fantastic reviews.

Friends and family of Will Burns could struggle to recognise him as he takes on the role of the Wolf – made up as a cross between Wolverine and Johnny Depp from the film Into the Woods. Stalwarts of Yeadon Panto, Peter Long and Frank Mottram team up as the comedy duo Reddy and Willing, with Doreen Seaman making a welcome return as Matron Bullymore.

The production runs at Yeadon Town Hall until Saturday, January 24.
