Scenes from school days of yesteryear

First published in

BUILDING work on the former Ilkley Secondary School site brought back memories for a former pupils.

Queens Road resident, Frazer Irwin, found these photographs, taken on his last day at school in June 1962, showing classrooms inside the building, on Valley Drive.

The pictures show the stage, a science laboratory and part of the art room at the school. The building was later used as Ilkley Middle School, and finally as part of Ilkley Grammar School, before it was demolished.

Most of the playing fields have been retained as public recreation space, but retirement housing complex, Emmadjay Court, was built at one side of the side, and another portion of the land is being used for new houses.
