Call for little astronauts to join Barnardo's Big Toddle
11:20am Monday 2nd June 2014 in News
Parents throughout Leeds and Ilkley are being urged to raise funds for vulnerable children by signing up for The Barnardo’s Big Toddle.
Last year more than half a million under fives across the country were registered for the short sponsored walk – with £8,447 being raised in Leeds alone. In Ilkley a total of £275 was raised.
Now the charity is hoping for a repeat of that success with a large event planned for Leeds, and an appeal to parents to organise their own Big Toddles.
This year’s event will have an outer space fancy dress theme and Barnardo’s is asking pint-sized Buzz Lightyears to put their best feet forward to raise cash for local children who are supported by the charity.
Hundreds of children across Leeds are expected to take part in the half-mile sponsored walk. The event will take place at Temple Newsam Park in Leeds, at 10am, on June 5. All those who register to take part in the Big Toddle event will have free entry to Temple Newsam farm park that day.
Amanda Warrant, Barnardo’s fundraiser, said: “For the past 18 years, children across Leeds have amazed us with their enthusiasm and commitment to join in and help others.
“This year we thought we’d give little ones a chance to go to infinity and beyond and dress up as their favourite character associated with space.
“Every penny raised goes directly to our work with under-fives – so everyone can enjoy themselves and help raise vital funds for less fortunate children.”
Those who register receive a Big Toddle pack containing information and fundraising ideas. Visit bigtoddle.co.uk or call 0800 008 7005 to register.
