The official opening of Ilkley Lido left visitors getting soaking wet before even getting in the outdoor pool on Saturday due to the awful weather.

Bradford Council and the Friends of Ilkley Lido had worked hard to get the pool open earlier than normal and were fortunate to get excellent weather for that the previous weekend, with hundreds of visitors turning up.

But the official opening on Saturday, which had other activities including face-painting and a climbing wall booked, were hampered by the rain.

Louise Hale, of Friends of Ilkley Lido, said the she was hopeful improved weather in the weeks to come would draw in more visitors, alongside a busy programme of summer events.
