Market traders at Skipton Farmers’ Market are all set for Shrove Tuesday.

Malcolm Hughes from Red Tractor Foods, based in Ilkley, will be serving up sweet and savoury pancakes at his stall this Sunday – only two days before Shrove Tuesday.

Also there will be local traders selling every thing needed to make a pancake – including fresh eggs from Earby-based Mcgarrell Farm Produce and milk from Meadow Dale Farm based in Harrogate.

Malcolm said: “We wanted to celebrate what is an enjoyable ‘foodie’ day for everyone by showing that everything can be bought from a farmers’ market – and will largely be free range, and most importantly made locally.

“Why go to the supermarket when you can get it right here!”

He added: “I’ll have some fabulous toffee sauce on sale on the day which I’ll be using to accompany the sweet pancakes. I’ve been making it for 20 years and it’s always proved a favourite.”

Red Tractor Foods sell straight-in-the-oven ready meals and puddings – however unlike many other ready meals the ingredients are responsibly sourced from the local area. Malcolm is an accomplished cook and has been on the local radio many times as a ‘guest chef’.

Other stalls there on the day include Yorkshire Dales Granola, Just the Ticket preserves, Italian ready meals and desserts, meat, cheese, bread, biscuits and plants.

The monthly market, held in the canal basin is on between 8.30am and 2.30pm.
