Bradford’s Conservatives have named Councillor Mike Gibbons as the district’s next Lord Mayor – as long as he gets re-elected in 2014.

The Ilkley ward councillor has been designated to take over the role from current Lord Mayor, Councillor Khadim Hussain in May.

Coun Gibbons has already served a stint as Deputy Lord Mayor in 2012 and has been a parish councillor for 22 years.

He is also chairman of Bradford Council’s health and social care overview committee and is a former chairman of the Keighley & Ilkley Constituency Conservative Association.

Coun Gibbons was selected at a Conservative Group meeting this week and group chairman, Wharfedale ward councillor Dale Smith, who was Lord Mayor when Coun Gibbons was deputy, said he was confident he would do an “excellent job”.
