A celebration of Father’s Day took place at All Saint’s Church in Ilkley on Sunday. The special Father’s Day family service was lead by the vicar, the Rev Patrick Bateman, assisted by curate, the Rev Richard Parkinson and the director of Youth, Children and Families Ministry, Lawrence Basham who led a talk about the story of The Prodigal Son featuring the young people of the church. The theme throughout was the role of the father in the family today, as an important male role model to his children, whatever the family situation may be. A number of Ilkley fathers took to the pulpit and regaled the congregation with their own moving stories. The Prodigal Son was fortunately followed by the prodigal sun, as prayers were answered, the rain subsided and the outdoor fun began.
