Two men who lost their lives to cancer will be remembered with a charity fundraising day in Horsforth.

Hundreds of people are expected to attend the fun day next month, which will raise money for Macmillan Cancer Support.

The event, at the Horsforth Hotel, is in memory of Shaun Turner, who died last month aged 43, and his friend Andy Forrest, who died five years ago at the age of 47.

Michelle Shaw, 30, who is organising the Macmillan Mash Up, is friends with Shaun’s partner Michelle and Andy’s daughter Natalie.

She said: “Macmillan do a fabulous job and I wanted to do something that would raise a lot of money for them and what better way to do that than get all the local people involved and have a charity fun day.”

Michelle described Shaun, an accountant, and Andy, an operations director for Macfarlane Transport, as “great guys.”

She said: “This day is to raise money for Macmillan, but also in memory of two local men who sadly lost their lives too young to cancer. The two were extremely well known in Horsforth and we expect this day to be very busy and to raise a lot of money for Macmillan.”

The event, on Sunday, May 26, will include an auction with signed shirts from Leeds Rhinos and Leeds United, a year’s membership to a golf club and gym and a signed photo from Olympic medal winners the Brownlee brothers. There will also be entertainment from live bands, a raffle – with prizes donated by local businesses – hot roast sandwiches, a bouncy castle, face painting, balloon modelling, a fire engine and vintage cars. Between 400 and 500 people are expected to attend.

Michelle said: “This day has been put together so far completely free of charge through the sheer generosity of local people and businesses.”

She thanked friends and family who made the day possible by giving their help and support.

Tickets cost £2 and are available on the day. Children are admitted for free.
