MERCURY MOVIE MAKERS: Last Wednesday saw the second show of Annual Competition Films. We had seen half the entries the previous week and were encouraged by the good number of entries from our members. Second show films included Three Days in the Maasi Mara which won the Holiday/Travel category. There was another African-themed film, followed by a visit to a civil engineering project on a grand scale Along the Yangtze. A film with a rhyming commentary showed us what an American rodeo looks like and got a certificate of merit. Yellow Submarine was followed by Lake Garda, both informative and well photographed. Jersey Bays, naturally about the island, gained the makers a runner-up place in the Holiday/Travel section. Whitby Goth Weekend showed the crowds of extravagantly dressed visitors to Whitby overlooked by the notable abbey ruins. The Black Sheep was another novelty film while Bear Essentials showed another view of America and its wildlife. This was runner-up in the Unclassified section. Along the Bamks of the Wharfe by Roy and Jean Vickers, with its scenes of Yorkshire at its best and its mellifluous commentary, was the winner of the Unclassified section. More details should be available at mercurymoviemakers.com.
