The organisers of Otley Show are lining up some top entertainment – and praying for better weather – as this year's event draws nearer.

The 2013 show, the first big regional agricultural event of the season, will take place at the Bridge End showground on Saturday, May 18.

Death and gravity defying feats of daring courtesy of The Stannage Stunt Team and a display of equine skills by the Galloping Acrobatics look set to be among the highlights.

They will complement a host of more traditional attractions including birds of prey, spinning, and weaving demonstrations, the Sheep Show, and tug o' war and farrier competitions Show secretary Janet Raw, of Wharfedale Agricultural Society, said: "As usual, classes for cattle, sheep, horses, ponies, goats, poultry, rabbits, dogs, local produce, handicrafts - and more - represent the backbone of the show, and if previous years are anything to go by, entries in these classes should be in excess of 4,000.

"The show's lakeside area features the poultry and pigeon and the rabbit and hamster marquee, and is where the farriers will be competing all day from very early, with the tug o' war commencing about noon.

"This is now also the principal pedestrian entrance and as such the wonderful Chevin presents a fantastic backdrop to one of the largest one day shows in Yorkshire.

"The success of the music marquee, meanwhile, near the main arena, has seen an increase in acts wishing to participate and they will perform throughout the day."

More live music will be provided by the Yorkshire Volunteers Military Band, who will perform in the main arena.

Other attractions will include a 'friendly' dog show, where entries will be taken on the day, and two displays by The Ridgeside Lurchers.
