THE Ladykillers, Ilkley Players’ season finale, opens in the Wharfeside Theatre on Monday and runs until July 19.

It is based on the classic 1950s Ealing comedy, which starred Alec Guinness and Peter Sellers in which a sweet old lady, Mrs Wilberforce, rents a room in her house to a group of men claiming to be amateur musicians. Unbeknown to her they are actually a group of con-men planning a daring robbery.

When Mrs Wilberforce uncovers their plans, she is caught up in a dangerous game as the men decide whether they can leave the house with her still alive. With only her parrot, General Gordon, as an ally, Mrs Wilberforce has her work cut out to stay one step ahead of the game.

The play, written by Father Ted scriptwriter Graham Linehan, has given director, Rachel Conyers, some interesting challenges.

Rachel said:“This is not an easy play to stage.

"You need an imaginative set designer, a dedicated and hardworking technical support team, skilled set builders and painters, expert lighting, sound, costume and props designers and operators and, of course, an excellent cast. Luckily, Ilkley Playhouse has been able to provide all of these."

The Ladykillers runs from July 6 to 18 at 7.30pm, matinee only on Saturday, July 11. Tickets £11/£9.

A reminder that there’s a one-off chance to see the band Fire and Rain, who will be performing tomorrow, Friday, July 3 at 7.30pm. Fire and Rain are a collection of five talented musicians, who perform music from artists James Taylor and Carole King. They are supported on vocals by Gracie Falls. Unreserved seating, tickets £10.

On Thursday, July 9, One Night of Love will be staged in the Wildman Studio. Actors from Ilkley Players will explore every aspect of love through an eclectic mix of poetry.

The production is devised by Alan Hall and directed by Moira Ferguson. Performance starts at 7.30pm, tickets £6.
