Stand Up for GOLD: New sports drama recounts independent India’s first Olympic victory, releasing 15th August 2018
Megastar Akshay Kumar stars in Excel Entertainment’s GOLD, a new historical sports drama inspired by India’s first Olympic gold medal, in cinemas on 15th August 2018.

GOLD highlights India's emergence from the shadow of the British Empire as it meets the British hockey team on the field, this time as a nation of its own.

The film traces the “golden era” of Indian hockey through the journey of Tapan Das (Akshay Kumar), a young assistant manager who dreams of playing for an independent nation. Other stars joining him include Mouni Roy, Kunal Kapoor, Amit Sadh, Vineet Singh and Sunny Kaushal.

The significance of the “gold medal” is particularly important as it represents the dream that united a nation when India won its first gold medal as a free nation on the 12th of August 1948. Marking the 70th anniversary of free India’s first gold medal at the 1948 Olympic games, GOLD is set to release in cinemas worldwide on 15th August.
