SILSDEN residents have got in the saddle with preparations for the Tour de Yorkshire.

A banner proclaiming the tour’s arrival in the town on May 3 has been erected on the wall of Silsden Methodist Church.

There is also a Twitter feed devoted to ‘Le Tour Silsden, @LeTourMan, which is giving regular updates on plans for the cycle race.

Silsden’s Tour de France group, which coordinated local celebrations for last summer’s race, has continued meeting over the past few months to look at activities on May 3.

The Tour de Yorkshire was devised following the success of last year’s Tour de France, which came through Silsden, Keighley and Haworth.

The May 3 race is expected to go through Silsden between 3.21pm and 3.40pm, and amateur riders taking part in accompanying Sportive race should reach the town at least two hours beforehand.
