On Saturday the third race in the Wharfedale Primary Schools’ Cross-Country League was organised by Ben Rhydding School.

Despite the day being very cold, it was near perfect conditions for the 400 competitors from Reception to Year 6 who raced for their schools.

The winner and runner-up in the races were: Reception girls - Amelia Gibbons (Ashlands) and Charlotte McCarthy (Burley and Woodhead); Reception boys - Harry Jackson (Menston) and Jacob Thompson (Burley and Woodhead); Year 1 girls - Abigail Stott (Moorfield) and Lily Dobson (Ben Rhydding); Year 1 boys - James Pratchett (All Saints) and Edward Riley (Ashlands); Year 2 girls - Bethan Morley (Ashlands) and Ella Shouler-Harris (Burley and Woodhead); Year 2 boys - Matthew Revis (Burley and Woodhead) and Max Shaw (Ben Rhydding); Year 3 girls - Rebecca Hadfield (All Saints) and Alessandra Ricci (Menston); Year 3 Boys - Sam McKinnon-Evans (Ashlands) and Francis Westhead (Menston); Year 4 girls - Jessica Burgess (Ben Rhydding) and Phoebe Ogden (All Saints); Year 4 Boys - Charles Smith (Ghyll Royd) and Ben Thompson (Burley and Woodhead); Year 5 girls - Tassy Heslop (Moorfield) and Naomi Brown (Menston); Year 5 boys - Jordan Windass (Menston) and William Tench (Ben Rhydding); Year 6 girls - Emma Schilders (Westville House) and Grace Malir (Menston); Year 6 boys - Emerson James (Bradford Grammar School) and Thomas Kerr (All Saints).

Organiser Shirley Wood said: “Well done to every child who competed on Saturday regardless of where they finished in the race; to the schools for supporting the league and many thanks to Mr Fletcher and all the helpers at Ben Rhydding School for such a wonderful day of cross-country running.”

The next race in the series is being organised by Ashlands School in January.
