BEN Rhydding put on a magnificent display of hockey in front of an appreciative home crowd to claim a convincing victory over Brooklands at the weekend.
Rhydding began in a very strong and confident manner and whilst they had to defend valiantly, they also looked explosive in their attack. Charlie Smith opened the scoring, receiving the ball back from Max Helme in a glorious 1-2 and slotting from a difficult angle to make it 1-0. It was Charlie Smith who set up the second goal, driving strong and rewarding Mark Portnell who galloped hard to get with him and slotted nicely to make it 2-0.
A stunning corner routine gave Rhydding their third goal, fizzed home by Will Musgrave in emphatic style and Brooklands now began to drown. Rhydding scored a goal in each quarter and the fourth goal was spectacular. A mighty aerial pass from Matty Birch that Mark Portnell tipped over his head for the oncoming Will Musgrave, who smashed home for 4-0.
