ILKLEY Town’s strong start to the season continued with a comprehensive 3-0 home victory over Runcorn Town.

Tom Smith ensured a fine start to the clash for Ilkley as he fired home a fifth-minute strike.

Runcorn kept Ilkley at bay until a late double. Nathan Hunt doubled the host’s lead in the 78th minute on Saturday.

James Hughes rubber-stamped an emphatic victory for Ilkley with a third in the 94th minute.

The victory maintained Ilkley’s 100 per cent start to the new campaign in the North West Counties League Division One North with their second successive win.

This saw them only denied top spot by goal difference, which was instead occupied by Pilkington.

Ilkley travel to Bacup Borough tomorrow night. This will be followed by a clash with FC St Helens this Saturday (kick off 3pm).
