GUISELEY have announced the signing of Ethen Vaughan after a trial spell with the club.

Looking to push on with his career with the re-vitalised Guiseley AFC is Welsh U-19 international Vaughan

The 20 year-old right back made a good impression as a trialist in the win over York City and was keen to put pen to paper on a contract with The Lions.

Halifax-born Vaughan started his football career as a youngster at Huddersfield Town. He then joined Norwich City and played for their Under-18s and 23s. He left The Canaries to join Burnley in January 2022 and then had a short spell on loan at Farsley at the back end of last season.

His brother Rohan is a scholar at Burnley. Vaughan qualified to play for Wales U-19s through his grandfather.

The young right back said that as soon as he played for Guiseley v York he knew it was the place he wanted to be.

“I had trials at Buxton, Halifax, Dunfermline and Altrincham before I trialled at Guiseley this pre-season but I enjoyed it at Guiseley. The players and staff really made me feel welcome,” said Vaughan.

He added: “This is a great opportunity that has been given to me and I can see that there is a future for the club and that they are ready to bounce back to National League North. I want to be a part of that.

“Personally I am looking to get as many minutes as possible and to try and make my name in football. The York game was a good challenge for everyone and I thought that as a squad we performed well. I am looking forward to the Darlington game now, that will be another good challenge for us,” said Vaughan.

Guiseley also to confirmed the signing of Donald Chimalilo who has impressed in the club's last three pre-season friendlies as a trialist.

Danny Ellis and Danny Forrest were delighted with the 22 year-old Zambian’s form and quickly signed him up after he hit the winner in Guiseley’s 1-0 victory over National League North side York City at Nethermoor.

‘DC’, as he likes to be known, with little experience behind him made his mark in a fine Guiseley display against The Minstermen.

He played for Tadcaster Albion last season but didn’t look out of place in higher company producing some explosive runs and some Jack in a Box traits in the penalty area.

He took his header in fine style and looks as if he will be a good asset for The Lions. It was a sweet goal for the man who lives in York.

Chimalilo came up through the York-based i2i Football Academy and was signed by Scarborough Athletic but injuries and Covid saw him fail to make an appearance for The Seadogs.

Of his trial at Guiseley he said: “I set out to make an impact by coming in and trying to do my best. I knew Guiseley coach Martin Foster from my time at Tadcaster and he recommended me to Guiseley.

“He told me that I would enjoy it at Guiseley and after only a few games I know that I will. I was immediately made welcome by everyone at the club, the players, the staff, the fans and everyone who works for the club.

He added: “I have loved it since I came to Guiseley, it is a good environment to be in, the best place to enjoy your football.”

The player said that he did not really come from a footballing family as his father was a rugby international for Zambia.

“He does like football though, especially if I am playing. I think I must get my love of football from my grandad who used to coach football in Zambia." At one time he came over to England to do some coaching at Manchester United,” said Chimalilo.

He added: “My parents are buzzing about me getting settled and signing for a team. Outside of football I really want to do something in property like working for an estate agent.”

Summing up his role on the pitch he said: “I have played in many positions but feel I am best as an attacker. I am looking forward to getting up and running with Guiseley.

“The squad looks strong so hopefully we will be trying to push for promotion. I have been impressed by the players they have, there are some real solid players and the intent is there. This does not seem like a club that was relegated, there is a real good vibe about it.”
